York Region District School Board said Monday, Jan. 17 evening that schools will be closed on Jan. 18 but classes would continue online after a snowstorm taking over the Greater Toronto Area.
“Due to today’s significant snowfall amount and the condition of roads, sidewalks and school parking lots that remain to be plowed, York Region District School Board schools will be closed to students on Jan. 18,” YRDSB said in a statement.
“Bus and taxi transportation service to YRDSB schools is cancelled and before and aftercare programs will not be operating,” the board added.
York Catholic District School Board also said on its website that students will continue their classes Tuesday online.
“School Transportation is cancelled for today due to inclement weather,” the Catholic board said. “Schools are closed to students. Students are to remain at home and access asynchronous remote learning for the day.”
The snow storm has already closed public and Catholic schools in York Region on the first day students were to have returned to class amid the latest pandemic restrictions.
