East Gwillimbury is closing most of its town facilities Jan. 5 in accordance with directives from the Province of Ontario.
Effective Wednesday, the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex, Ross Family Complex, Holland Landing Community Centre and satellite facilities are closed for sport, recreation programs, drop-in activities, meetings and indoor events. Town staff are notifying participants and permit holders and credits will be applied to accounts where possible.
The library branches at Ross Family Complex and Holland Landing Community Centre will remain open with limited capacity of 15 customers per branch. Public health measures will continue to be enforced, including physical distancing and required face mask use for staff and visitors. Curbside pickup is available.
In addition to these changes, the Civic Centre will be closed to walk-in public access. Customer Service can be reached at 905-478-4282, customerservice@eastgwillimbury.ca and information is available on the website at eastgwillimbury.ca.
“With COVID case numbers increasing at a rapid pace and the current provincial regulations in place, these changes are the right thing to do,” Mayor Virginia Hackson said. “Safety of community members and our staff continues to be our top priority, and these measures will help slow the transmission of the COVID-19 virus.”
All essential services for the town such as fire and emergency services, snow clearing, waste removal, and water/wastewater operations will continue.
While indoor facilities are closed to the public, residents are encouraged to explore East Gwillimbury parks and trails.
When weather conditions permit, the outdoor skating rinks at Ridge View Park in Holland Landing and at the Mount Albert Community Centre will open.
As COVID-19 restrictions lift, the town will reintroduce in-person services where it is safe to do so. For updates on current measures in EG, visit www.eastgwillimbury.ca/covid19.
