York Region's non-compliance team issues 19 charges in Aurora, Georgina, Markham, Newmarket, Vaughan

The Region of York’s COVID-19 enforcement task force issued 19 charges under the Reopening Ontario Act from Dec. 13, 2021, to Jan. 2.

In total, task force members conducted 929 inspections at locations across York Region during the 21-day period. There were also 462 compliance education activities conducted.

The charges are part of an ongoing effort to assure businesses are in compliance with current public health regulations and restrictions.

Two of the charges were in Aurora and Georgina while three charges were issued in Newmarket and Markham. One charge was issued in Vaughan.

Details of eight incidents in which charges were applied by York Region Transit were not disclosed.

The combined enforcement team includes York Region Public Health inspectors, municipal bylaw officers, York Regional Police, York Region Transit representatives and Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario officers.

Businesses failing to keep their customers and employees safe by not adhering to the mandated COVID-19 safety measures are subject to fines, according to the Region of York.

Since March 18, 2020, 1,591 charges have been issued, 33,713 education activities conducted and 76,832 inspections.

Fines are $880, unless noted otherwise.
