Stouffville to close recreation and administrative facilities starting Jan. 5

The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville will be closing its recreational, cultural and administrative buildings to the public starting Wednesday, Jan. 5 in accordance with new provincial guidelines.

The announcement, made by Premier Doug Ford, outlined the province’s move back into “Modified Stage 2” with a series of restrictions imposed to help contain the spread of COVID-19. Included in the announcement were restrictions on gathering sizes and the closure of various buildings and businesses.

“It is unfortunate that the province needs to impose new restrictions to continue the fight against COVID-19,” Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt said. “But the health and safety of the residents of Stouffville is our top priority and we will help fight the pandemic until it is over.”

As a result of the announcement, the following will be closed in Stouffville effective Wednesday:

The Whitchurch-Stouffville Leisure Centre will be closed, and all programs cancelled or postponed. This includes fitness, swimming and recreational activities. Any patrons who have signed up, or have children signed up for programs will be contacted directly by the Leisure Centre with specific details.

The Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum & Community Centre will be closed, and all programs cancelled or postponed.

The Lebovic Centre for the Performing Arts (“Nineteen On The Park”) will be closed, and all events cancelled or postponed.

The Stouffville Arena, Clippers Complex and SoccerCity will be closed and all games and events cancelled or postponed.

Whitchurch-Stouffville Town Hall will be closed to the public, including the customer service area and the planning help desk. Visitors can continue to access parking information (including tickets and permits), tax and water billing information, and other online services attownofws.ca.

The restrictions are scheduled to remain in place until Jan. 26, 2022.
