The York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) and York Region District School Board (YRDSB) have elected new board of trustee chairs and officers for 2022.

Elizabeth Crowe, trustee for Aurora, King and Whitchurch-Stouffville, was unanimously elected chair of YCDSB.

Allan Tam has elected board chair for YRDSB. He is trustee for Markham Wards 4 and 5.

“I am honoured to have the support of my fellow trustees,” Crowe said in a news release.

“In the next year, we will face budgetary pressures due to the ongoing pandemic, the uncertainty of a provincial election, and challenges in the public domain that will question the very existence of Catholic schools. I have no doubt that as a board we will continue to prove that we put the students entrusted into our care foremost in our decision-making so our schools continue to be safe, creative, faith-filled learning environments.”

Maria Marchese, YCDSB trustee for Vaughan Area 3, was elected vice-chair, a position in which she has previously served.

“It is a privilege to again serve as vice-chair of the board,” Marchese said. “I am ready to work with our new chair and the board of trustees to meet the many challenges brought on by the pandemic to ensure that our students continue to reach their fullest potential.”

At YRDSB, Ron Lynn, trustee for Markham Wards 2, 3, and 6, will serve as board vice-chair.

David Sherman, who represents Markham Ward 1 and Vaughan Ward 5, will be the YRDSB finance and property standing committee chair.

Cindy Liang was elected as the learning, equity, and well-being standing committee chair. She is the YRDSB trustee for Richmond Hill Wards 3, 5 and 6.

The final officer elected for YRDSB is Bob McRoberts, trustee for Aurora and King, who will serve as the policy and bylaw standing committee chair.

The term for trustees in both boards will end on Nov. 14, 2022.
