Are you on the voters' list for Richmond Hill's mayoral byelection?

Eligible voters in the City of Richmond Hill will be able to vote online or in person in the 2022 byelection for mayor. Online voting is a safe, secure and reliable voting method that was used successfully in the 2020 Richmond Hill school board byelection.

Online voting for the 2022 byelection will be available from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, until 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 24.

In-person voting will be available on Saturday, Jan. 22 and Sunday, Jan. 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on voting day, Monday, Jan. 24 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Check if you are on the voters' list

You must be registered on the voters' list to vote online or in person. It's easy to check if you are on the voters' list. To do so:

Confirm your information is correct and complete on the voters' list to ensure a smooth voting process. Voters who register by mid-December will receive a Voter Information Package (VIP) by mail in early January. Voters who register later than mid-December will receive their VIP by email.

The VIP will contain the information required to cast your ballot online.

Voter Eligibility

To be eligible to vote in this byelection, you must be:

at least 18 years of age;

a Canadian citizen;

a resident of the City of Richmond Hill; or the owner or tenant of land in Richmond Hill (or the spouse of any such owner or tenant of land); and

not otherwise prohibited by law from voting.

The mayor will act as chief executive officer of the municipality, preside over council meetings, represent Richmond Hill at official functions and provide leadership as the head of council. The current term will end Nov. 14, 2022.

All candidates for mayor must submit a completed nomination form, at least 25 fully complete endorsements on the prescribed form, the declaration of qualifications and pay the prescribed filing fee of $200. Forms are available at RichmondHill.ca/RHVotes. Nominations will be accepted until 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10.
