Are you and your family looking for a fun way to ring in the new year?
Look no further than the Magna Centre, where the town will be hosting a New Year’s Eve party.
The event will feature free swimming, skating, indoor concert and skating performances and outdoor pre-fireworks concert and buskers.
Registration is required for swimming and skating only. Registration opens Dec. 17 at 8 a.m. at newmarket.ca/firstnight.
The first 500 attendees to the celebrations will receive a Connor McDavid collectible miniature hockey stick, courtesy of event sponsor Tim Hortons.
Indoor activities -- swimming, skating, indoor concert and skating performances -- will run from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
Those 12 years of age and up should be prepared to show proof of double vaccination for all indoor activities and masks are also required.
The outdoor pre-fireworks event -- a live concert featuring the Bianca Rollo Band, train rides on the Tim Hortons Express, food trucks, photo opportunities and roaming busker entertainment -- will take place on the east side of the Magna Centre from 8:30 to 9 p.m.
COVID-19 protocols for the outdoor pre-fireworks event:
All attendees should maintain physical distance of six feet/two metres from others outside of their family.
If physical distancing becomes difficult, attendees should wear a face mask.
Face masks will be mandatory for some activities (e.g. using indoor washrooms, train rides)
All attendees should complete the COVID-19 online screening at newmarket.ca/covidscreening prior to arriving at the event. If you do not pass the screening and are experiencing signs or symptoms of COVID-19, do not attend the event.
Cap off the evening with a dazzling five-minute fireworks display at 9 p.m. in the mini soccer fields at the southeast corner of Mulock Drive and Fernbank Road.
Parking and Road Closures:
Magna Centre east parking lot will be closed on Dec. 31 starting at 7 a.m.
Fernbank Road (from Mulock Drive to Nellie Little Crescent) will be closed from 8:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. during the fireworks show.
The Magna Centre is at 800 Mulock Dr.
