Newmarket continues to clean up after weekend wind storm that brought down tree branches and damaged hydro equipment across town.

Blaine Osmond, communications coordinator at Newmarket Tay Power Distribution, said there were no power outages in Newmarket caused by the storm, however there was equipment damage from the wind.

On the west side of Bayview Avenue, south of Mulock Drive, a broken hydro pole is being held up by a boom truck. Crews are expected to repair it either today or tomorrow.

There is another broken pole at Yonge Street and Aspenwood Drive. Osmond said crews will be working on it today and tomorrow.

"We are in the process of organizing a scheduled outage for installation of pole and transfer of overhead conductors . A second scheduled outage will be required for transfer of underground feeding to New Roads Chevrolet and the Husky gas station to the new pole in the future," he said.

They also received minor reports of tree branches on power lines.

However in Tay Township and Midland, which are also served by NT Power, numerous power outages were caused by trees falling on hydro lines.

York Regional Police said they also received a number of calls during the wind storm, including approximately 20 calls for driving hazards in the Newmarket area of district 1 at the time of the storm.

Residents also took to social media to share their personal property damage, which consisted of downed trees, fallen fences and roof shingles that had blown off.

One resident reported that there was a tree on the road at Roxborough Road and Queen Street, while another shared a photo of a tree by Fairy Lake that had been entirely uprooted.
