COUNCIL CONNECTION: The ROC, Santa Claus Parade returns this winter

Yorkregion.com
Dec. 1, 2021

We had our first major snowfall recently and we can count on more to come.

The Town of Georgina has been preparing for snow removal activities over the past few months. With over 333 kilometres of roads, 140 kilometres of sidewalks and 25 municipal parking lots, there can be a lot of snow to clear.

Trucks have been prepared, plows installed, salt and sand materials delivered and contractors hired.

Please help by following overnight parking restrictions, clearing the sidewalks in front of your home, digging out fire hydrants and placing your recycling and garbage at the end of your driveway -- not on top of snow banks.

More information on snow removal is available at georgina.ca/snow.

ROC RETURNS FOR 2021-22

Due to pandemic restrictions last year, the ROC was unable to operate. This year, we are gearing up for a great season.

A season pass for residents is $79 and includes unlimited tubing, skiing and snowboarding, plus discounts on lessons.

After Dec. 31 the price increases to $120. Opening day depends on weather conditions, but details will be provided on the ROC webpage and other corporate channels.

Remember you can travel to the ROC on York Regional Transit at no additional charge, just show your ROC season pass to the bus operator. More details are available at georginaroc.ca.

SANTA IS COMING!

The Georgina Kinsmen are bringing back the Sutton Santa Claus Parade on Dec. 4. The parade starts at 5 p.m. in Jackson’s Point and travels down Dalton Road to High Street to the Sutton Fairgrounds.

Don’t worry, Santa will be back in Keswick in 2022!

START THE CAR!

The Festival of Lights at the Civic Centre launches Monday, Dec. 6 and continues until Saturday, Jan 1. Drive along the ROC parkway in your vehicle and tune in your radio for the music to fully enjoy the animated light displays.

While the pandemic is easing, please remember to follow the COVID-19 protocols while enjoying a more “normal” winter holiday season.
