Newmarket temporarily closes dog park after reports of sick dogs at facility

Newmarket has closed its dog park until further notice after reports of dogs being sick at the facility.

"At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that the dog park is a site for concern," the town said in a statement on the evening of Nov. 3.

"The town is closing the dog park as a safety precaution in order to conduct a full safety investigation and inspection. Once the investigation is complete, and the dog park is deemed safe, the park will be reopened."

The statement didn’t say how many dogs had been sick at the park, located at 220 Bayview Pkwy.

"Pet owners are reminded to ensure their pets are up to date with their shots. If your pet is not feeling well, or is not up to date with their shots, avoid areas where pets congregate," the town added
