Remembrance Day offers an opportunity to pay our respects to those who have, and continue to, risk their lives for our freedoms.

The city is holding a scaled-down service Nov. 11 at the Unionville Cenotaph in front of Crosby Arena.

The public is free to join politicians and guests at 11 a.m. and place their poppy.

This year, the Markham Arts Council (MAC) is also hosting a Remembrance Day art contest.

All mediums of art are welcome demonstrating the meaning of the day to you.

All you have to do is post your artwork on Instagram using the hashtag #LestWeForget21 and include a statement letting everyone know what the piece means to you.

To participate, you need to be following MAC on Instagram and enter before the contest ends Nov. 11.

The lucky winner will have the chance to have their work featured and have a $50 donation to the Markham Veterans Association made in their name.

The public is also welcome to leave a message in the city's virtual Book of Remembrance to honour the sacrifice of all those who have fallen, served, and still serve.
