East Gwillimbury looking to spread holiday spirit with toy and food drive

Donations of non-perishable food items, gift cards, new unwrapped toys, toiletries and more are being accepted from Nov. 22 to Dec. 17.

The Town of East Gwillimbury's annual Toy and Food Drive has kicked off for another year. Donations of non-perishable food items, gift cards, new unwrapped toys, toiletries and more are being accepted from Monday, Nov. 22 to Friday, Dec. 17.

Each year, the town along with the help of community members, schools and businesses collect donations to support local charities and families in East Gwillimbury and York region. Some of those charities include Sandgate Women’s Shelter, Blue Door Shelter, Rose of Sharon, Salvation Army, Yellow Brick House, Women’s Centre, Mount Albert and Holland Landing food pantries, and the St. James Food Closet.

Donations can be dropped off at the Civic Centre on 19000 Leslie St. in Sharon, the Holland Landing Fire Station on 19314 Yonge St., the Mount Albert Fire Station on 22 Princess St. and the Queensville Fire Station on 1590 Queensville Side Rd.

Items in need include toiletries for men, women and babies; clothing; housewares and linens; baby items (formula and diapers); toys for children under three and preteens and non-perishable food items (please check the expiry date on food items).

Gift cards and monetary donations, cash donations and cheques (made payable to the EG Toy and Food Drive) can be dropped off at customer service located inside of the Civic Centre. Pre-purchased gift cards can be placed in the drop box located at the front entrance of the Civic Centre.
