King Township council has approved the 2022 budget. Here are five things you need to know.
1. Council has approved to a 0.75 per cent increase for additional service enhancements in King’s portion of the 2022 budget. Council members directed staff to keep the 2022 tax increase as close as possible to zero per cent to help residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. King’s operating budget is $47.3 million and the capital budget is $56.4 million.
3. King’s portion of the property tax funds operating budgets to fund current service levels, programs and services as well as capital infrastructure. This includes snow removal from roads and sidewalks, road and bridge repairs and maintenance, fire and emergency services, parks, arenas, facilities and library branches.
4. Funding for the township-wide recreation centre was approved in the 2022 budget at $75.8 million (2018-2024).
5. The following projects are in the 2022 budget: bridge and culvert rehabilitation at $2 million, Tasca Community Park Phase 2 at $1.4 million, Cold Creek Conservation Area restoration at $650,000, Osin Community Park at $542,000 and trail development at $200,000.
