A new toboggan hill is on its way to Memorial Park. Council approved the reshaping of a berm on the east side of Park Drive that will be the new toboggan hill. The cost of the work could be up to $175,000.
Town staff said Memorial Park has a large berm on the east side of Park Drive that has a small southern acing slope intended for tobogganing, but has not worked well as it’s the first area to melt with the warm southern facing exposure. Also, the north area, which was built as a high berm to provide sound protection to the homes on Thicketwood Boulevard, has an area that faces northwest that kids have been using, but can be very dangerous.
"This is a long time coming. We all remember what happened to the last toboggan hill. I am pleased that we are moving on this," Ward 4 Coun. Rick Upton said.
The previous toboggan hill was removed when Park Drive was redone.
Included in the creation of the new slope will be the placement of fill to prevent people from sliding onto Park Drive. The town will also be installing a chain-link fence for a portion of the Park Drive side that will eliminate any future liabilities with wayward sliders who might still try to slide down the wrong side of the hill toward Park Drive.
The hill is expected to be ready for the winter toboggan season.
