After four decades of working for the Town of Georgina, chief administrative officer David Reddon announced his retirement "effective immediately."

Reddon started with the town in 1981, fulfilling various roles and became CAO in 2019.

The decision to retire was not without reflection and many difficult discussions, Reddon said.

“Now is the time to spend the future with my family and enjoy my retirement,” he said in a statement.

“I have watched our town grow and change. It has been so rewarding to be a part of the ongoing transformation. As both a staff member and resident of Georgina, I am proud of all our accomplishments.”

As recovery efforts from the COVID-19 pandemic continue, Reddon decided to quietly retire.

“We are not out of the woods yet,” he said of the pandemic. “I expect I will cross paths with many of you in the months and years to come.”

And his leadership during the pandemic is the most recent example of his commitment to the town and keeping residents safe, said Mayor Margaret Quirk.

“We all thank him for his dedication,” she said on behalf of council. “(His) legacy will continue long after his retirement. We wish him well in this next stage of his life.”

Council will be discussing a plan to fill the vital leadership role moving forward.
