Vaughan Catholic school closed until Nov. 22 due to 15 COVID-19 cases

York Catholic District School Board closed Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Elementary School in Vaughan until Nov. 22 due to 15 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The news comes after Ontario reported 128 new COVID-19 cases tied to public schools Nov. 17, the highest single-day tally recorded in more than a month.

The Ministry of Education said about 110 of the cases were detected in students and 16 involved staff.

On Nov. 16, Ontario approved the use of rapid antigen COVID-19 tests in limited circumstances for unvaccinated asymptomatic public school students. Some York Region education unions were lobbying the government to supply them with these tests.

Earlier this month, St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School in Schomberg pivoted to remote learning from Nov. 8 to 12 after 15 COVID-19 cases were confirmed among students and one staff member.
