Newmarket’s Main Street is inviting the public to get into the holiday spirit in person again with the annual Christmas tree lighting Nov. 19.

The Main Street BIA will once again host the event starting at Main and Water streets. It will feature live music, as well as free hot chocolate coupons and battery-operated candles on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants will walk together in a candlelight procession before the tree is lit.

“We are so excited to have our Christmas tree lighting again this year,” the Main Street BIA said on Facebook. “Hope to see you there.”

The event is going in-person again this year after COVID-19 protocols forced organizers to keep it to a pre-recorded live stream-only occasion in 2020. The province removed most outdoor capacity limits for organized public events last month.

The first 250 guests will get hot chocolate coupons, redeemable at the Fresh Tea Shop and Goblets and Goblins. The first 260 attendees will also get candles to carry with them as the procession walks up Main Street to light the tree.

“Thank you Main Street Newmarket BIA for making this happen with all the ever-changing guidelines,” Councillor Bob Kwapis said on Facebook.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. Friday.
