Brampton’s proposed 2022 budget includes 2.7 per cent property tax increase

The City of Brampton’s Proposed 2022 Budget of $1.1 billion includes a 2.7 per cent property tax increase.

According to the City, in order to deliver existing City programs and services, support infrastructure, and prepare for economic growth, a 2.7 per cent property tax increase has been proposed. If approved, the 2022 property tax bill will show a 1.3 per cent property tax increase for City services, 1.5 per cent for Region of Peel services and 0 per cent for school boards. The total property tax increase would be an average of $142 per household.

There is also $120.5 million being proposed to contribute to City reserves to keep buses, roads, recreation centres, and public spaces fully upgraded and maintained.

Of the proposed $1.1-billion budget, $794 million will be for the operating budget to deliver existing services and $328 million for the capital budget to purchases and repair various infrastructure necessities like roads and buildings.
