Dubbed Greenbelt Over Asphalt, a demonstration against the Ontario government's plan for two highways is taking place Saturday, Nov. 13 at York-Simcoe MPP and Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney's constituency office in Holland Landing.

The rally will unite the protests against the Bradford Bypass, which Premier Doug Ford announced Nov. 8 will be fully funded by the province, and Highway 413, for which Ford also confirmed support this week.

The demonstration takes place Saturday at unit 8, 45 Grist Mill Rd. from 1 to 2:30 p.m., with speeches beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Protesters "will be expressing their desire to take climate action, fix traffic issues in a sustainable way and to keep Lake Simcoe healthy over building new highways," said Margaret Prophet, executive director of the Simcoe County Greenbelt Coalition, in an email.

York Region confirmed its support of the controversial Highway 413/ GTA West Transportation Corridor project last spring, despite the fact some local councils, including Vaughan, have withdrawn their endorsement of the highway that would run southwest from Vaughan to join Highway 407 near Halton.
