2 spas in Vaughan charged by COVID-19 enforcement task force for non-compliance

The Region of York's COVID-19 enforcement task force team issued eight charges to businesses and individuals under the Reopening Ontario Act for the two-week period from Oct. 4 to 17.

In total, task force members conducted 886 inspections at locations across York Region during the 14-day period. There were also 265 compliance education activities conducted.

Four of the charges were issued by York Region Transit, but the nature of those charges were not disclosed.

The city of Vaughan also issued four charges. Two of them were spa businesses, and the fines were were $880.

The spas and charges were:

Blondie Massage Spa -- 435 Bowes Rd., Vaughan -- individual not wearing a face covering; and

Vaughan Spa -- 566 Rivermede Rd., Vaughan -- individual not wearing a face covering.

Businesses failing to keep their customers and employees safe by not adhering to the mandated COVID-19 safety measures are subject to fines, according to the Region of York.

The combined enforcement team includes York Region Public Health inspectors, municipal bylaw officers, York Regional Police, York Region Transit representatives and Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario officers.
