UPDATE: Know the dates: From mayor’s annual event to connecting trails and getting involved in 2022 budget

It’s going to get really busy in Vaughan for city officials. Here are a few key upcoming dates.

1- Vaughan mayor's annual event Oct. 13

In collaboration with the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce, the City of Vaughan will be presenting the annual mayor’s event in a live broadcast on Wednesday, Oct. 13.

After Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua finishes his address, there is going to be a scheduled live Q&A session with the mayor, moderated by Vaughan chamber’s president and CEO Brian Shifman.

This is when residents have the chance to send a video with their question to have it answered during the event.

The deadline for the questions was Oct. 4.

2- Aim for December budget consultation

Dubbed as the “fundamental part of governance,” the city said it’s upcoming 2022 budget is going to “outline moving the city forward” and provide more than 200 daily programs and services “effectively and efficiently.”

Not only that, but the city is also developing its 2023 to 2026 Capital Plan.

For those who want to be more involved, they can visit vaughan.ca/budget to view upcoming public meetings, participate in an online feedback form, email the project team and more.

As for public consultation, the city said “residents are encouraged to join the conversation and help shape Vaughan’s promising future.”

The city is holding three electronic-participation public meetings in December to address the 2022 Budget. They are:

Special committee of the whole (public meeting) on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.

Special committee of the whole (public meeting) on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.

Special Council meeting to approve the budget on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.

3- Join survey to give feedback on how to connect Vaughan’s trails

The city said it’s working to “create a seamless and connected network of city-wide trails -- including the Bartley Smith Greenway.”

To back the city’s Bartley Smith Greenway Trail Feasibility Study to determine how to complete the development of a three-kilometre gap in the trail between McNaughton Road and Rutherford Road, residents' input is needed.

As public consultation is an important part of this process, the city wants to hear from you -- how do you use the Bartley Smith Greenway? Do you have ideas on how to connect the trail? Until Tuesday, Oct. 19, participate in an online survey to:

learn about the proposed trail alignment

find out more about the design process and project status

hear about the next steps of the project.

provide feedback on the proposed trail alignment.
