Chris Emanuel is the new president of the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce.
His appointment comes after Tracey McGruthers-Doak was unable to take the job due to undisclosed “unforeseen circumstances.”
The position was left vacant after former president Tracy Macgregor became vice-president of member services for the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.
Emanuel said he’s excited to take over Nov. 1.
"I look forward to strengthening and advancing the work of the chamber to the benefit of our businesses and community,” he said.
Board of directors chair Kyle Burgis called Emanuel’s appointment a “huge win.”
“Chris is an exceptional business leader with a strong background in advocacy and policy, as well as operations,” he said.
“He brings with him a deep understanding of current business issues and a strong vision for the chamber to drive transformation and growth.”
Emanuel served as Newmarket’s Ward 7 councillor from 2003 to 2007.
He was also on the national board of directors for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
