On the heels of the provincial government lifting capacity limits for concerts, theatres, cinemas and sports venues as of Oct. 9, Aurora will follow in the government’s footsteps.

As of Oct. 15, there will be no limit on the number of spectators allowed in town arenas and pool viewing areas, but limits remain in place for fitness centres and personal training, and indoor meeting and event spaces continue to be subject to capacity-based on physical distancing.

Anyone entering the town’s recreation facilities must show proof of vaccination and identification, complete the COVID-19 screening and contact tracing and wear a mask or face covering.

“We are pleased with the provincial announcement that the spectator limit has been lifted. This will allow entire families to once again be able to watch their loved ones participate in their activities,” Mayor Tom Mrakas said.

“While this is great news for our residents, I do want to remind all visitors to our facilities that with the increased capacity and the requirement to complete screening, contract tracing and confirm proof of vaccination status, we anticipate longer lines to enter our facilities. We ask for your patience during this time. To help expedite the process, we recommend you arrive early and have your information ready to present to our staff.”

Visitors to town facilities are reminded to be patient and kind with staff as they follow the new amendments and keep people’s health and safety top of mind.
