York Region's COVID-19 non-compliance team issues 22 charges; 17 by police

The Region of York’s COVID-19 enforcement task force team issued 22 charges to businesses and individuals under the Reopening Ontario Act for the two-week period from Sept. 20 to Oct. 3.

Seventeen of the charges were issued by York Regional Police but the nature of those charges were not disclosed.

York Region Public Health cited four instances of noncompliance, including two at Newmarket locations and one each at businesses in Markham and Richmond Hill.

The charges are part of an ongoing effort to assure businesses are in compliance with current public health regulations and restrictions. The results are listed in a biweekly report issued by the Region of York.

In total, task force members conducted 782 inspections at locations across York Region during the 14-day period. There were also 375 compliance education activities conducted.

The combined enforcement team includes York Region Public Health inspectors, municipal bylaw officers, York Regional Police, York Region Transit representatives and Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario officers.

Businesses failing to keep their customers and employees safe by not adhering to the mandated COVID-19 safety measures are subject to fines, according to the Region of York.

Fines are $880, unless noted otherwise.

The following list includes published charges issued to venues and individuals for non-compliance to health restrictions and measures for the 14-day period:

Dual Design and Machine Inc., 19 -- 1131 Gorham Street, Newmarket, No masking, YR Public Health.

Individual, Town facility, Whitchurch-Stouffville, Failure to wear mask, Whitchurch-Stouffville Bylaw Enforcement.

Madsen's Greenhouse Event Venue, 100 Bayview Parkway, Newmarket, Failure to provide adequate list of patrons and an event, YR Public Health.
