The Newmarket Chamber of Commerce has named Tracey McGruthers-Doak as its new president and CEO effective immediately.

The new member of the organization most recently served as the executive director for Catholic Community Services of York Region. She also worked 15 years at Georgian College as a professor, field placement officer and trainer for its corporate and workforce development department.

“I’m thrilled to join the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce and look forward to helping advance the terrific work the chamber has done,” she said in a news release.

She is replacing Tracy Macgregor, who is moving on to a new role as vice-president of member services for the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. Macgregor announced her departure in August after more than three years in the role.

McGruthers-Doak holds a master of arts degree in adult education. She also served 11 years as executive director of the Lung Association, co-authored the textbook "Interpersonal and Group Skills for Law Enforcement" and is the author of "Empowered Mindset."

“We’re looking forward to her leadership and guidance in the next chapter of the Newmarket chamber,” board of directors chair Kyle Burgis said.

The chamber has worked since the pandemic began to help businesses, and direct them to related government support programs. Those efforts have included promotion and facilitating initiatives such as COVID-19 rapid testing.

“I’m excited to get to know and work with the membership to further economic recovery in our community,” McGruthers-Doak said.
