Aurora Keg, East Gwillimbury LA Fitness, Wonderland among 28 charged for COVID-19 violations

Canada’s Wonderland, LA Fitness in East Gwillimbury and The Keg in Aurora are among the 28 charges laid in the past two week against York Region businesses and individuals violating COVID-19 restrictions.
Between Aug. 23 and Sept. 5, the region’s COVID-19 enforcement task force carried out 535 inspections, resulting in 241 compliance education activities, and 28 charges.
York Region Public Health charged Canada’s Wonderland at 9580 Jane St. in Vaughan for lack of physical distancing, with a fine totalling $1,130.
LA Fitness Sports Clubs at 18367 Yonge St. in East Gwillimbury was charged for not properly screening patrons and staff. LA Fitness in Markham, at 8555 Woodbine, was charged for no active screening of patrons, and patrons not wearing masks when walking from to and from equipment.
Also in East Gwillimbury, Landing Bar and Grill at Unit 1 - 45 Grist Mill Rd. was charged for lack of staff screening and Sharon House Tap & Kitchen at B - 19103a Leslie St. was charged for not having capacity signage, employee screening, contact tracing or screening of patrons.
The Keg Steakhouse and Bar at 106 First Commerce Dr. in Aurora was charged for not actively screening staff, as was The Keg Steakhouse & Bar at 3300 Rutherford Rd. in Vaughan.
Also facing charges in Aurora is Uniform Basics at 255 Industrial Parkway South for an employee not wearing a mask and Ye Skewers Hot Pot Aurora at 15480 Bayview Avenue for not screening staff and not having a contact list.
York Region Public Health inspectors also charged Fontana Gardens Banquet Halls at 7400 Keele St. in Vaughan for not having a safety plan, contact list or employee screening, and Stonefire Bar and Grill at 8-10 8700 Bathurst St. in Vaughan for lack of safety plan and capacity signage.
Also in Vaughan, bylaw officers charged ATL Lounge at 3600 Rutherford Rd., Bomond Restaurant & Lounge at 1200 Highway 7, and Treasure Lounge Grill & Bar at 136 Winges Rd. for a lack of physical distancing.
Est. 2020 Restaurant & Lounge at 3603 Langstaff Rd. and Whiskey a Go-Go Strip Club at 544 Rivermede Rd. were charged for an individual not wearing a face mask, while Vaughan Spa at 566 Rivermede Rd. faced two charges for the same violation.
Other charges were laid at St. Phillips at 191 Mactaggart Dr. in King for lacking a safety plan and employee screening, at Penguin Pick-up located at 31-9325 Yonge St., Richmond Hill for not having a safety plan, and at Battle Arena at 7261 Victoria Park Ave. in Markham for an incomplete contact list.
One charge was also laid at a private residence in Markham for failing to comply with section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act and another individual was charged for lack of screening, lack of COVID-19 safety plan, and lack of capacity signage, with further details not available prior to publication.
Except for the charge laid at Wonderland, each of the fines total $880.
No Newmarket businesses were named in the latest enforcement efforts.
