Occupation: MP for King-Vaughan and Canada’s minister of seniors

Past political experience:

Deb Schulte has served as the MP for King-Vaughan since 2015 and as Canada’s minister of seniors since 2019. She is a strong voice for the community, focused on delivering positive results.

As an MP, Schulte works to bring people together. The House of Commons unanimously passed her private member’s motion to mark June as Italian Heritage Month, and with her leadership as chair, the environment committee delivered two unanimous reports.

As minister, she delivered one-time payments to help seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic, strengthened seniors’ financial security through the first permanent increase to OAS since 1973, expanded the New Horizons for Seniors program and is implementing a new program, Age Well at Home, to help seniors stay in their homes.

Schulte previously served as a York regional councillor for Vaughan, and saved taxpayers millions of dollars through fiscal discipline and accountability at Vaughan city hall. She was a part of the council that helped deliver Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Schulte fought gridlock by improving traffic flow, expanding capacity, making roads safer, and building more transit and cycling infrastructure.

As a recognized environmental champion, she has saved hundreds of hectares of green space through advocacy and sustainable development. Schulte served on the Greenbelt Task Force, the Humber Watershed Alliance, and the Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation Board. A dedicated community leader, Schulte was a school council chair, soccer coach, and ratepayer association president.

Have you been vaccinated? Why or why not?:

I have been fully vaccinated. I encourage everyone to get vaccinated to protect themselves, loved ones, and our communities. Getting vaccinated will help us put the pandemic behind us.

If elected, I pledge to …

… be a strong voice for King-Vaughan in Parliament and build on my record of getting results for constituents: build more infrastructure, from accessible broadband to improved community facilities; accelerating action on climate change and protecting our environment; making life more affordable; and developing an economy that serves everyone.
