Vaughan banquet halls charged for lack of contact tracing following stag, wedding COVID-19 cases

Two Vaughan event venues have been charged for a lack of contact tracing as part of York Region’s regular COVID-19 enforcement.

Paramount Conference and Event Centre at 222 Rowntree Dairy Rd. and The Royalton at 8201 Weston Rd. each received a $880 fine for not having a contact list.

The two venues were linked to at least eight cases of COVID-19 following a stag and wedding Aug. 27 and 28, according to a York Region Public Health pubic notice issued Sept. 10 to warn guests of the high risk of exposure due to difficulties obtaining contact information.

The charges are among 14 laid by the York Region COVID-19 enforcement task force Sept. 6 to 19, according to a news release.

A third Vaughan business, Oud Café & Lounge at 3560 Rutherford Rd., was charged for not complying with physical distancing rules.

In total, task force members completed 526 inspections and and 237 compliance education activities.

Three inspections were carried out by Newmarket bylaw officers, which didn’t result in any charges or education activities.

A total breakdown of the charges includes:

Two issued by York Region Public Health
Nine issued by York Region Transit
Two ssued by York Regional Police
One issued by the City of Vaughan.
