The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) is holding public consultation meetings as part of its review of trustee electoral areas.

In every municipal election, residents of York Region elect a trustee to represent them at YRDSB.

Ahead of each municipal election, the board must review the number of trustees and the areas they represent.

Background research for this review began in April 2021 and the board is now asking for the public’s input on three potential options for new trustee boundaries.

Three virtual meetings will be held: Wednesday, Sept. 22; Monday, Sept. 27; and Wednesday, Sept. 29, each at 7 p.m.

Community members who wish to participate can register online for one of the three meetings.

The proposed options are also posted online for review.

None of the options include changes to the trustee area that currently represents Newmarket.

However, each option would see East Gwillimbury and Georgina become one trustee area.

There are also a number of proposed changes for Aurora, King, and Whitchurch-Stouffville.

Following the public consultations, an information report will be discussed with trustees at a standing committee meeting in October.

A final report will be presented to trustees between November and January.
