Maple residents safely gathered at a backyard which hosted an event where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke just one day before the federal election.
A local resident, who gave his name as Dan, spotted Trudeau's coach bus parked outside a public school and hoped the prime minister would come out to say hello. He said he feels Trudeau has been doing a good job at leading the country.
However, what he expects from the next elected government is that they get the pandemic under control.
"We need get the pandemic under control and people need to feel safe," Dan said, adding that he felt uncomfortable when he went to cast his pre-vote. "There was a long lineup outside the building, and everyone was close. I almost walked away," Dan said.
"He could have lost voters," he added.
The prime minister, along with Deb Schulte who is up for re-election for the King-Vaughan riding, were some of the Liberal politicians in attendance at the event, which was held at a residence on Bellefontaine Court.
Residents gathered to show their support, and chanted his name when he made his departure at 12:30 p.m.
Here are five quotes from Prime Minister Trudeau:
1) "We need to get back to a growing economy as quickly as possible and the only way to do that is to lead on vaccinations."
2) "We are going to make sure that families have $10 a day child care so we can make sure families have the resources they need to get back into the work force."
3) "The challenge of climate change is both an existential one, a community one, an economical one, and you can not have a plan for the future of the economy and jobs if you don't have a plan for climate change..."Canadians need to make a vote towards the best plan for climate change, for the economy and move Canada forward as a progressive country."
4) "Before we can do anything else we need to end this pandemic for good."
5) "Seeing the different perspectives in this campaign, Canadians can see there are very different kinds of ways on how we move forward... there's a choice of both leadership and ideas. On leadership we know the way through the pandemic is to respect science, to make sure people get vaccinated and to stand up for people, the 80 per cent of Canadians who did the right thing to get vaccinated and wear masks who show that they are not just here for themselves, but for the community."
