Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie is set to launch the 2021 Thanksgiving Food Drive in support of the Mississauga Food Bank to help raise $400,000 and 200,000 pounds of food by Oct. 17.

On Sept. 14 between 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the event will take place at the Garry W. Morden Centre. This is the sixth consecutive year the food drive is happening.

Also in attendance will be Meghan Nicholls, CEO of the Mississauga Food Bank, and Deryn Rizzi, fire chief and director of emergency management.

In the last year, the food bank noted that over 25,800 residents visited a food bank, and over 6,800 residents went for the first time.

For every dollar donated, the Mississauga Food Bank will be able to provide food for two meals for a resident through their network of over 50 agencies.

There are various ways to help the food drive which include making a financial donation, organize a food drive, donate food at a drop-off location, and to volunteer.
