Town of Aurora employees will have to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Nov. 1, the municipality announced Aug. 30.

“As an organization, we know this is the best way to keep both our staff and our community safe,” Mayor Tom Mrakas said of the mandatory policy.

“We believe that it is our responsibility to take this additional step to protect everyone, given the rapidly changing COVID-19 situation and the pressure that we are under as a region and a province.”

The policy aligns with similar announcements made recently by both public- and private-sector organizations, the town said in a statement.

Staff will be required to receive two doses of a Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccine.

More details on the policy and its related processes, including expectations for all staff, visitors and contractors, will be shared in the near future, the town said.

“This decision is the next step in a series of health and safety measures that the Town has implemented since the start of the pandemic both in our workplaces and in our community,” CAO Doug Nadorozny said.

“Our expectation is for staff to comply with the policy, absent a valid medical or human rights-based exemption, but our approach as an employer will be to educate first and enforce as necessary.”
