15 children at a Richmond Hill daycare test positive for COVID-19

As Pfizer and Moderna scramble to run vaccine trials for children under the age of 12, reports of children contracting COVID-19 cases continue.

The latest provincial data shows that there are 25 children who have contracted COVID-19 in 10 different daycares in York Region.

Beynon Fields Before and After School in Richmond Hill alone has 15 cases of children and one staff member who have tested positive for COVID-19.

In comparison to Beynon Fields, nine other York Region’s childcare centres have much less children with COVID-19.

Blooming Lives Montessori Inc. in Markham has one case.

Family Day Care Services - Armadale Child Care Centre in Markham has one case.

Kids Come First Children's Centre in Vaughan has two cases - children - and another one - staff.

Mini Skool "A Child's Place" Inc. has one case.

Noah's Ark Childcare and Nursery in Richmond Hill has one case.

Terrace Woods Day Care Services Inc. o/a Wee Watch in Vaughan has one case.

The Early Years Daycare Centre  in Richmond Hill has one case - child - and one - staff.

We Are Family Children's Centre in Vaughan has one case.

Public Health Ontario recently said that achieving herd immunity against COVID-19 will not be possible without an approved vaccine for children under 12.

It also urged parents to immunize young children against COVID-19 as soon as vaccines are approved. There is no approved vaccine for children under 12.

So far, Health Canada announced Aug. 27 that it authorized the use of the mRNA vaccine for Canadian children between the ages of 12 and 17.

The vaccine had only been available to those over the age of 18 so far, though the Pfizer mRNA vaccine was authorized for kids over the age of 12 back in May 2021.
