Question: What is your take on the Thornhill route of the Yonge North Subway Extension possibly being tunnelled underneath a residential area (Royal Orchard neighbourhood)? Many residents have expressed their fear of losing what they thought would be their forever homes by expropriation. What is your take on this?

Liberal, Mary Ng:

The Liberal team supports public transit projects that help lower emissions, are more accessible, and help families get back home quicker -- projects like the Yonge North Subway Extension.

Decisions like the route of the subway are the responsibility of the provincial and local government. We are focused on providing capital and investing to get shovels in the ground, and expand transit for families across York Region.

NDP, Paul Sahbaz:

The NDP know that improving transit and getting our transportation infrastructure right will create jobs, strengthen communities, and reduce our carbon footprint. We will consult with the community to ensure that the subway extension makes life easier, not more difficult, for the people in our community.
