The successful push for COVID-19 vaccinations in York Region continues to decrease the need for mass inoculation clinics.
With 82-per-cent of eligible individuals ages 12 and older having received their first dose of vaccine, the Region of York is shifting toward smaller community pop-up vaccination clinics.
More than 76 per cent of eligible York Region residents are fully vaccinated.
The region announced Aug. 19 the opening of two pop-up clinics in Markham and Georgina.
They are:
Aug. 19
Markham -- Markham Welcome Centre, 7220 Kennedy Rd., Unit 8, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be offered for first and second doses.
Aug. 20
Georgina -- Sibbald Point Provincial Park, 26071 Park Rd., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Pfizer vaccine will be offered for first and second doses.
Meanwhile, after the mass vaccination clinic located at Emily Carr Secondary School in Vaughan was closed at the end of Aug. 18, others are slated to follow suit.
They include SoccerCity in Stouffville (Aug. 20), Georgina Ice Palace in Keswick (Aug. 22), Ray Twinney Recreation Complex in Newmarket (Aug. 26) and Maple Community Centre (Aug. 29).
Individuals holding vaccination appointments at these clinics after the scheduled closure date can walk in or rebook at another nearby York Region COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
