The York Catholic District School Board is accepting applications for a vacant trustee position in Markham following a resignation.

Area 2 trustee James Ecker was required to step down after accepting an appointment as a justice of the peace by the Attorney General of Ontario, assigned to the Newmarket Court, according to YCDSB communications and marketing manager Mariann Gordon.

The board is seeking a Catholic trustee to represent separate school ratepayers in Markham wards 4, 5, 7 and 8 until the next municipal election Nov. 15, 2022.

A Catholic school board trustee is a member of a faith community committed to the vision, mission and protection of publicly funded Catholic education in Ontario, a YCDSB news release states.

A practising Catholic who can provide a pastoral reference;
Not an employee of the York Catholic District School Board or any other district school board or school authority in Ontario.
The successful candidate, who will receive an annual honorarium of $14,913, is expected to attend board and committee meetings typically held evenings.

This successful candidate will be sworn in at the Sept. 28 regular board meeting.

The personal information of the candidate is being collected, used, and may be disclosed by the board and in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act to fulfil its mandate pursuant to the Education Act to conduct an open and transparent appointment process.
