An existing traffic signal at Yonge Street and Jefferson Sideroad in Richmond Hill is being reconstructed to meet accessibility requirements, according to a York Region public notice.
The existing traffic signal will be reconstructed to meet Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements. Improvements include replacing the standard push buttons with Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) and inserting tactile walking surface indicators to alert people with low or no vision of potential hazards.
Construction is scheduled from July to October 2021. Temporary lane closures will be required between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The intersection will remain open to traffic and access will be maintained.
The Regional Municipality of York maintains the condition of the regional roads for motorists, cyclists, transit users and pedestrians.
Safety is a priority on all regional construction sites. Please reduce your speed through the construction area.
Construction may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or delays related to COVID-19 public health guidelines. York Region will provide advance notice whenever possible.
