New COVID-19 vaccine pop-up clinics and visits from Ontario's GO-VAXX bus are coming to York Region in the next week as the push to increase vaccination rates continues.

York Region Public Health is holding a pop-up clinic at YMCA Markham on 101 YMCA Blvd. on Thursday, Aug. 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A second pop-up clinic will take place at the Islamic Society of Markham at 2900 Denison St. from Monday, Aug. 16 to Wednesday, Aug. 18. It will be open each day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

As mass-vaccination clinics are being scaled back, these pop-up options will help the region reach its vaccination targets, said Patrick Casey, director of corporate communications at York Region.

To further increase access to vaccines, the GO-VAXX bus, a mobile clinic run by Ontario’s Ministry of Health will be making two stops in York Region in the next week.

On Friday, Aug. 13, the mobile clinic will visit the Sutton Fairgrounds at 3 Fairpark Lane from noon to 10 p.m.

The next day, Saturday, Aug. 14, the bus will go to East Beaver Creek Restaurants at 155 York Blvd. in Richmond Hill. The hours there will also be from noon to 10 p.m.

All clinics will be offering first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

Appointments are not required for any of the pop-ups or mobile centres.
