Halton Region continues to be ranked as the city with the lowest Crime Severity Index (CSI) of all Canadian cities with a population above 100,000. This distinction has been held by the municipality for 23 years in a row.
Data provided in Statistics Canada’s annual report on crime in Canada provided an overview of Halton’s proud status.
The same goes for having the lowest Violent Crime Index and Non-violent Crime Index. “It is incredible that the Region of Halton and the HRPS (Halton Regional Police Service) have maintained the lowest Crime Severity Index of all Canadian municipalities with a population over 100,000,” Police Chief Stephen Tanner said in a press release.
“However, I am particularly proud of the all-time high Weighted Clearance Rate achieved,” Tanner added.
Weighted Clearance Rate is the proportion of crimes solved by police that take the severity of the crime into consideration.
Police services board chair and Town of Oakville Coun. Jeff Knoll said he was “incredibly proud of the sworn and civilian women and men of our service for the work that they do to keep our community safe.”
