Newmarket's Choose Local campaign urges residents to shop local (and maybe win a prize)

Summer campaign builds on success of similar holiday version

Newmarket residents, are you looking for a place to eat, somewhere to shop or a spot to get a service?

Why not shop local and have a chance to win a prize at the same time?

Building on the success of the 2020 Holiday Choose Local campaign, the town and the Chamber of Commerce have launched a summer version, complete with a contest.

The summer edition has been crafted to encourage residents to support the local business community during and after the COVID-19 pandemic and to help keep dollars circulating through the local economy.

"Businesses have been hit hard by the pandemic and we are thrilled to be partnering with the Town of Newmarket on the Choose Local campaign," Chamber president Tracy Walter said.

“We encourage everyone to get out there to shop, dine and choose local.”

The town is excited to reignite the Choose Local campaign and encourages the community to support local businesses as the economy reopens, Mayor John Taylor said.

“Our first Choose Local contest was a big success with over 300 contest entries,” he said.

“Our businesses rely on our support and every time you choose a local business you are not only supporting that business but you are supporting our community.”

The campaign includes an online business directory designed to make buying local easier.

Shoppers are then encouraged to share photos of their purchases on social media for a chance to win one of three $500 shopping sprees, a $900 Market Brewing Company prize pack or a $250 gift card to My Lil Gems.

Take a photo showing how you support that Newmarket business. Get creative and have fun with it.

Post a photo of your purchased product, service or activity on Instagram or Twitter, or email chooselocal@newmarket.ca and be entered into a draw to win.

Be sure to tag @TownofNewmarket and @NewmarketChamberofCommerce and use the hashtag #ChooseNewmarket.

Remember to also tag the business to inspire others to also support your local favourites.

Each social post is one entry. Participants may enter multiple times, with separate posts over the course of the contest.
