After being closed to the public for more than a year, the Newmarket Public Library will reopen for browsing and borrowing on Tuesday, July 6.

Under step 2 of the provincial reopening plan, capacity will be limited to 50 visitors at a time.

Throughout the pandemic, the library has been offering curbside pickup for resources but now that’s set to change.

For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic started in 2020, you will be able to browse the bookshelves and also pick up holds off the shelf.

Computers will be available for use for one hour only and will also have individual study spaces.

The library will also be issuing new library cards and renewing existing ones.

A number of protocols will be in place to ensure a safe reopening, including self-screening for COVID-19, sanitizing hands upon entry, and wearing masks at all times while inside, as well as physical distancing.

You are asked to keep your visit short to allow others to enjoy the facility.

Newmarket Public Library will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Workshops will continue online with programs on camping, knitting, creative writing, and children’s reading clubs taking place throughout July.
