The Town of Newmarket is starting up its outdoor fitness classes July 5 as the provincial reopening plan lifts more restrictions.

The municipality will provide five different four-week sessions, taking place outside the Magna Centre. The sessions will cost $20 plus tax for fitness centre members.

The classes will follow public health protocols, with participants asked to do an online COVID-19 screening before each class.

“Classes have been modified where possible to ensure less movement and equipment,” the municipality said on its website.

The sessions come as the province expanded outdoor fitness restrictions June 30. The province has allowed outdoor fitness classes since June 11 for up to 10 people. But that is now expanded to be “the number of people who can maintain three metres distance.” Indoor gyms remain closed.

Change rooms will not be available, so participants are asked to come dressed to workout. People must remain at a designated spot and are asked to bring their own equipment, including yoga mats. There will be no sharing of equipment, but instructors will supply disinfectant wipes.

Masks are not required but are recommended where physical distancing cannot be maintained.

All participants must pre-register and pay online at play.newmarket.ca. More information is available at newmarket.ca/fitness.
