Vaughan announced July 14 that the city’s indoor pools and fitness facilities are set to open Wednesday, July 21.

Pre-registration is required and will begin on Monday, July 19 at 8:30 a.m.

All fitness centres will reopen except for Garnet A. Williams since renovations are ongoing there.

Members will be able to exercise at a temporary fitness facility secured by the city in the plaza behind Promenade Mall at 7700 Bathurst St., Unit 1. The Maple fitness centre will reopen once the COVID-19 vaccination clinic closes, to be determined by York Region Public Health.

For fitness facilities, the city said, it will have the “capacity limits of up to 50 per cent where physical distancing permits, and scheduled 75-minute workout time blocks, with a 15-minute shutdown in between appointments for cleaning and sanitization.”

Meanwhile, pools will also have “capacity limits of up to 50 per cent where physical distancing permits, and scheduled 60-minute pool time blocks, with a 30-minute shutdown in between for cleaning and sanitization.”

Also, spas and diving boards will be available for use; however, water slides will remain closed until further notice.

The city advised existing members to “reactivate their membership in advance.”

“The city put all fitness and pool memberships on a temporary hold for the duration of the community centres’ closures,” it added. “Members must have an active membership to book a time block for a workout, recreational/length swim, and aqua fitness classes.”

Individuals who don’t reactivate their membership will be required to pay a single-visit fee.

Members can also register for a workout four days and two hours in advance. For further details, visit vaughan.ca/fitness.

To reactivate a membership, email RecCSD@vaughan.ca or call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281.
