Ontario reporting lowest single-day COVID-19 case count since September

Ontario is reporting another 114 COVID-19 cases and zero deaths, according to its latest report released Monday morning.

This is the lowest reported single-day COVID-19 case count in the province since Sept. 1.

Ontario has administered 121,653 vaccine doses since its last daily update, with 17,119,624 vaccines given in total as of 8 p.m. the previous night.

According to the Star’s vaccine tracker, 10,153,351 people in Ontario have received at least one shot. That works out to approximately 77.9 per cent of the eligible population 12 years and older, and the equivalent of 68.9 per cent of the total population, including those not yet eligible for the vaccine.

The province says 6,966,273 people have completed their vaccinations, which means they’ve had both doses. That works out to approximately 53.4 per cent of the eligible population 12 years and older, and the equivalent of 47.3 per cent of the total population, including those not yet eligible for the vaccine.

The seven-day average is at 184 cases daily, or 8.8 weekly per 100,000. Ontario’s seven-day average for deaths is at 5.1 daily.

The province says 15,933 tests were completed the previous day, and a 0.9 per cent positivity rate.

There are 142 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province, including 204 patients in intensive care. The ICU number includes those who currently test positive for COVID-19 as well as those who no longer testing positive. There are 123 people on ventilators.

Locally, Health Minister Christine Elliott says 18 new cases in Grey Bruce, 15 in the Region of Waterloo and 10 in Toronto.

Meanwhile, the province is reporting that there are no new deaths in long-term care so the number of residents who have died stays the same at 3,786.

Ontario is reporting no new outbreaks in long-term-care homes, for a total of four or 0.6 per cent of LTC homes in the province with outbreaks.

This data is self-reported by the long-term-care homes to the Ministry of Long-Term Care. Daily case and death figures may not immediately match the numbers posted by the local public health units due to lags in reporting time.

There are 144,714 confirmed cases in Ontario of the Alpha variant first detected in the United Kingdom, an increase of 14 from the previous day.

There are 1,440 in Ontario of the Beta variant first detected in South Africa, with no new cases reported from the previous day.

There are 4,818 of the Gamma variant first found in Brazil, an no new cases reported from the previous day.

There are 2,711 cases of the Delta variant first detected in India, an increase of four cases from the previous day.
