Residents can pay their respects to fallen Toronto police officer Const. Jeffrey Northup at a Thornhill funeral home on July 11.

The family will receive friends and guests from the general public at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes' Thornhill chapel at 8088 Yonge St., north of Royal Orchard Boulevard, from 6 to 9 p.m., according to the funeral home’s website.

The veteran officer was killed on duty on July 2 at the age of 55 after police say he was deliberately struck by a car in a parking garage at Toronto City Hall as he responded to a report of a robbery.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder.

Northrup is survived by his wife Margaret, his children Brennen, Samantha and Mitchell and his mother Dianne.

His funeral will be held on July 12 at 1 p.m. at BMO Field.

The funeral is for invited guests, but will be broadcast publicly on Toronto Police Service’s YouTube channel.

The public is also invited to watch the procession from the funeral home to Exhibition Place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brampton Special Olympics or to a charity of your choice.
