As Ontario is slowly reopening, the town of Newmarket has announced that summer camps and park programs will be open this summer.

"We understand how important it is for kids to remain active and engaged and we have been eagerly awaiting to launch our summer camps when it was safe to do so," Mayor John Taylor said.

"It's been a long, difficult winter and we are excited to provide more opportunities for much-needed recreational activities to participate in during the summer months. Whether you are looking for full-day camps or short two-hour programs, all participants will be able to engage and socialize in a fun, friendly and safe atmosphere," Taylor added.

Camp registration will be open to residents on June 15 at 6:30 a.m. Residents are encouraged to register early to reserve a spot. Due to the Ministry of Health and York Region Public Health camp guidelines, the number of camps offered this year has been reduced to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Newmarket is also offering a Kids on the Move park program which gives children an opportunity to engage and socialize in a safe and friendly atmosphere. Each program costs $9 per day, and is two hours long for children ages six to 12. These programs consist of a variety of games, sports, arts and crafts, as well as outdoor activities while maintaining physical distancing.

Pre-registration is required and can be done at play.newmarket.ca.

Non-residents of Newmarket can register on June 22 if there are any spots still available, as participant numbers are limited.
