Ontario’s third lockdown has left many with an abundance of spare time. People have been able to take a moment to sit outside and enjoy what comes with not having too many things to do. They can indulge in hobbies they never had time for, like reading. Here’s what people have been reading from the Vaughan Public Library in 2021.

According to the Vaughan Public Library, the five most popular junior reads are:

'Guts' by Raina Telgemeier: A true story about how worries in school can affect children physically. This graphic novel was the most checked out book in the entire library with 299 people taking it home.

'Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wrecking Ball' by Jeff Kinney: This fiction book was the second most checked out book in the entire library with 294 people taking it home.

'Dog Man. Fetch-22' by Dav Pilkey: This graphic novel was the third most checked out book in the entire library with 275 people taking it home.

'Dog Man. For whom the ball rolls' by Dav Pilkey: This graphic novel was the fourth most checked out book in the entire library with 236 people taking it home.

'Big Nate. Blow the Roof Off!' By Lincoln Peirce: This graphic novel was the fifth most checked out book in the entire library with 235 people taking it home.

 

The Vaughan Public Library’s five most popular Adult reads are …

'Becoming' by Michelle Obama: This book takes you through the life of a woman who overcomes many obstacles relating to discrimination, and emerged stronger than before. 202 people took home this non-fiction book.

'American Dirt' by Jeanine Cummins: 174 people took home this fiction novel.

'A Promised Land' by Barack Obama: 169 people took home this non-fiction book.

'Where the Crawdads Sing' by Delia Owens: 164 people took home this fiction novel.

'A Time for Mercy' by John Grisham: 149 people took home this fiction novel.

 

Along with the adult and junior reads, the most popular teen novel was 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' by Suzanne Collins with 138 checkouts.
