Starting Sunday, June 6, Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital will officially open as a full-service hospital for the western York Region community.

The hospital operating at full capacity means programs planned to transfer from Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital to Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, including the Woman and Child, In-patient Mental Health and In-patient Integrated Stroke programs will open at Cortellucci along with its much-anticipated emergency department.

When the hospital opened for the first time in Feb. 2020, it offered its critical care space to COVID-19 patients provincewide to relieve any capacity pressures in other facilities.

The hospital will be the first new hospital to open in Ontario in more than 30 years, doubling access to care for York Region residents and beyond.

As of June 4, there are 395 COVID-19 active cases, in comparison to the peak April 18 when there were 565 cases, according to the York Region's graph.
