In May, York Region’s vaccine rollout plan picked up the pace, administering about 47 per cent more doses compared to April.
May also saw a number of changes on the vaccine front -- the AstraZeneca vaccine was halted by the province May 11, local pharmacies were now equipped with either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, more age group became eligible and second-dose appointments started May 31.
In May, 375,053 York Region residents received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, bringing the total number to 807,820 as of May 31.
And that amounts to about 62 per cent of the region’s population or about 73 per cent of adults in the region.
May COVID-19 numbers:
- Total COVID-19 cases as of May 1 -- 46,517
- Total COVID-19 cases as of May 31 -- 51,968, a 12-per-cent increase.
- Active cases as of May 1 -- 2,214;
- Active cases as of May 31 -- 465, a 79-per-cent decrease.
- Total new COVID-19 cases on May 1 -- 298 new cases, including 219 variants cases;
- Total new COVID-19 cases on May 31 -- 37 new cases, including 5 variant cases, an 88 per cent decrease.
Vaccines numbers for May 2021:
- Highest daily doses administered -- 14,218 on May 21;
- Doses administered to those 75-years and older -- 3,077 or about 0.8 per cent of the total vaccines in May;
- Doses administered to 60- to 74-year-olds -- 18,112 or about 5 per cent of vaccines;
- Doses administered to 45- to-59-year-olds -- 87,510 or about 23 per cent of vaccines;
- Doses administered to 30- to 44-year-olds -- 152,652 or about 41 per cent of vaccines;
- Doses administered to 18- to 29-year-olds -- 113,702 or about 30 per cent of vaccines;
- Number of residents who received a second dose: 29,193 or about 8 per cent of vaccines.
