York's COVID-19 task force tickets 9 businesses, individuals for noncompliance issues

Loud music, masks leading reasons for charges in Vaughan, Markham, Aurora and Richmond Hill.

Nine charges were issued to businesses and individuals by the Region of York’s COVID-19 enforcement task force team under the Reopening Ontario Act for the period from June 21 to 27.

Five of the nine charges were issued by Vaughan bylaw officers while Markham bylaw officers issued two tickets.

Four charges were at establishments exceeding maximum music volume levels beyond conversation levels. In three instances, businesses and individuals received tickets for face mask violations.

The others charges occurred in businesses in Aurora and Richmond Hill.

Task force members conducted 717 inspections at locations across York Region during the seven-day period.

In addition to the nine charges, team members conducted 210 education sessions.

The combined enforcement team includes York Region Public Health inspectors, municipal bylaw officers, York Regional Police, York Region Transit representatives and Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario officers.

Businesses failing to keep their customers and employees safe by not adhering to the mandated COVID-19 safety measures are subject to fines, according to the Region of York.

Fines are $880, unless noted otherwise.

The following list includes charges for noncompliance to health restrictions and measures for the seven-day period.

Jubilee Dragon Seafood BBQ, 7707 Kennedy Road, Markham, Business Regulations -- Staff and patrons not wearing face masks, Markham Bylaw Enforcement.
